So, when do we say “beautiful hair”, well it means when your scalp is full of hair, having a good hair density, and must be growing actively. Losing that hair may change your appearance and later it can decrease your confidence level, leads to anxiety or depression.  You might have tried or heard about many hair loss treatments before, but still, there is no single solution that can help you to bring back your hair all the time.
Recently, Platelet-rich plasma treatment (PRP) is something that has come up with more promising results in hair regrowth. Here, we are going to discuss Platelet-rich plasma therapy with you in detail.

Are you the right candidate for it?

You might be losing hair, but may not be known, why? Hair loss is multifactorial, and definitely Platelet rich plasma treatment will not work on all the factors.
Currently, hair PRP has shown remarkable improvement in androgenic alopecia in male, and female pattern hair loss in women. It’s very early to comment on it’s role in other type of alopecia.
Platelet rich plasma treatment has only few contraindications,  like if you are having any bleeding disorder, reduce platelet counts, taking any anti-platelet drugs, uncontrolled diabetes, or pregnancy; We recommend you discuss your medical history in detail with your doctor before getting it done.

The million-dollar question here, how does the platelet rich plasma work in hair loss? To understand this, you have to understand the biology of the hair follicle. Each hair follicle underwent several cycles of regression and regeneration during a lifetime. Each cycle has three important phase, a hair growing phase called the anagen phase, phase of initial regression i.e. catagen, a completely inactive phase known as telogen.  In order to have fuller look on our scalp, we must have at least 80% of hair in the growing phase, which is the anagen phase.
The anagen phase need a favorable environment for the hair regeneration that includes growth factors, minerals, and more. This anagen phase gets affected in many hair loss conditions like, male pattern baldness, female pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium, and few more. Now, the platelet rich plasma is injected around the regressing or thinned hair follicle, it will provide growth factors which are important for keeping hair in growing phase. This procedure is used to strengthen the hair follicles, which promotes longevity and energizes the inactive hair follicles to stimulate the growth of hair.

What to expect during the treatment?

The procedure begin with a numbing cream or local anesthesia over the scalp, which ensures painless PRP Treatment. Then, 20-40 ml of blood will be extracted from your vein for PRP preparation. You will feel a small prick, and it’s all done!
The treatment usually begins with micro-needling with dermaroller or a pen-like device. There are clinics that use the different combinations, but we believe combining both microneedling and PRP treatment, works together by creating a favourable environment for hair regrowth. Finally, you are will receive PRP injection into the scalp. These injections are not painful, and the whole procedure is very convenient.

Side effects of PRP

PRP therapy is a natural way of treating hair loss. It is done by using the patient’s own blood, and there is the rarest chance of any significant risk with PRP treatments. There could be a slight possibility of local infection like any folliculitis, which is again extremely rare. Mild heaviness or headache for few hours after the procedure is very common. Overall, the PRP procedure is a highly safe and effective treatment for hair loss.
